The League of Noble Peers have just released part 2 of Steal This Film. A documentary about the battle between new media and old, between the pirates and the corporations, over control of the media landscape in the information age.
These are great documentaries on cutting edge subject matter.
Currently this release is distributed solely online through p2p file sharing networks. It is also available to view streamed from Youtube, Google Video and in a better quality divx from Stage6.divx.com
This is just one of a number of full length documentary films circumventing traditional corporate media distribution and finding new audiences cutting out the middlemen and distributing online. A blog post by one of the filmakers http://jamie.com/ claims that there where over 150,000 downloads of Steal This Film 2 in the first 4 days of its release. No doubt this is unprecedented for an independent film release online.
That old saying ‘the revolution will not be televised’ comes to mind.
