EU internal market commissioner Charlie McCreevy has announced his intention to extend the European copyright term for sound recordings from 50 to 95 years.
This is of course a dangerous and absurd policy and we should therefore support the campaign for a Sound Copyright in the EU.
50 years is long enough there is no need for an extension. As it stands there is so much music from the 50’s and 60’s due to enter the public domain where it should be free to be copied, shared and remixed into new creative works.
